Matosinhos is a city and municipality in northern Portugal. It is bordered to the south by the city of Porto, and lies within the Greater Porto subregion. Many people have recently moved from the surrounding area to live there.
The city was the birth place of Álvaro Siza Vieira, who is a contemporary Portuguese architect. Some of the many prizes he has been awarded with is; the Alvar Aalto Medal in 1988, the Prince of Wales Prize from Harvard University in 1998, and more recently he was announced as RIBA's 2009 Royal Gold Medallist, to mention a few of them.
Matosinhos is located on the seacoast and is a commercial and industrial centre in the Porto Metropolitan Area. Matosinhos has good summer weather, nice beaches, but cool water temperature.
