Estoril is located in the Lisbon region in the west of Portugal, including Grande Lisboa and the Peninsula de Setubal.
This is a region of significant importance in industry, services and agriculture.

some of the best beaches in the country, and world famous golf courses.

It is 20 km to the mountains and 30 km to the nearest river.
In Portugal the Atlantic Ocean is always "close by" - distances from estern inland border will
maximum be a two hour drive. The closest beach is less than 1 km away.

Population in Estoril: 25.000 inhabitants. In Cascais municipality: around 180.000 inhabitants.
Estoril is a seaside resort about 25 km west of Lisbon - famous for it's fantastic beaches, nighlife and the biggest casino in Europe - Casino Estoril, with rich variety of shows. In summer it offers free night concerts.
Casino Estoril was reputed to be a gathering spot for espionage agents during World War II. The casino was also the inspiration for Ian Fleming's 007-novel Casino Royale.
Once a significant fishing port, Estoril is today important mostly as a tourist destination.
Motorsport events are frequent at the Estoril Circuit, although Formula One is no longer on the calendar. The circuit currently hosts international motorcycling events, among other lower formula events.
Estoril coast The area was initially called the Sun Coast. Owing to a Mediterranean type microclimate, the Estoril Coast has mild winters and an ideal summer temperature, which never gets too hot.
Estoril Coast starts in Carcavelos, 15 kilometres from Lisbon, and stretches as far as Guincho. Beaches on the Estoril Coast face south and are known for calm waters and fine white sand. One of the small beaches; Parede has an exeptionally high iodine content in the water - ideal for bone disorders. Two of the best orthopaedic hospitals in Europe are situated here.
The area of Cascais/Estoril is today ranked as one of the most expensive places to live in Portugal.

The country has a large variety of native breeds - about 285 - producing a very wide
variety of different wines with distinctive personality.
