Portimão is a city located in the Algarve on the southern coast of Portugal. Portimão is one of the two most populous cities in the Algarve. The other one is Faro.
Portimão is the most important city on the Barlavento /Western area of Algarve. The city has a harbor and a small airfield, Portimão airport - Aerodromo de Portimao.
A boat Marina was recently opened adjoining Praia da Rocha which adds the fascinating sight of the many boats at anchor as well as a further choice of bars and restaurants. Praia da Rocha, and Praia de Vau, are both offering tourist accommodation, good beaches and active nightlife.

Portimão is also a city with great sporting events. It is here, that the Mundialito de Futebol de Praia of Beach Football is held. You can also see Surf and Kitesurf and ofcourse golf-events. Even the Rally Lisbon-Dakar goes through this city!
Autódromo Internacional do Algarve In the hills near Portimão the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve has been built, a race and test circuit officially recognised for the highest categories both for cars and motorcycles. Superbike and A1 Grand Prix races and F1 tests are scheduled.
