Cascais is located in the Lisbon region in the west of Portugal, including Grande Lisboa and the Peninsula de Setubal.
This is a region of significant importance in industry, services and agriculture.

Population: Cascais has 35.000 inhabitants and the entire Cascais municipality - around 180.000 inhabitants.
Cascais is a coastal town 30 kilometres west of Lisbon, and a cosmopolitan suburb of the capital. Archaelogic studies have unveiled the presence of humans in Cascais since 5000 years ago.
Cascais municipality is one of the richest municipalities in Portugal.
Nowadays, Cascais and its surroundings are a famous vacation spot, aiming at both the "jet-set" and normal tourism. There is a smart new Marina with lovely yachts adding an attraction to the town.
In and around the town you will find several popular small sand beaches. Sailing, surfing, wind- and kitesurfing are popular activities in the area. In 2007, Cascais was the official host of the ISAF World Championship in sailing for dinghies and racing yachts.
Cascais is also becoming a popular golf destination, with over 10 fabulous golf courses nearby.
Just outside the town is the famous Boca do Inferno ("Mouth of hell") in which the sea on rougher days hammers into the rock and creates a booming noise and a spectacular spray!
The municipality also hosts international tennis and motorcycling events and hosted for many years the F1 Portugal Grand Prix.
Nearby Locations Within easy reach of Cascais is the famous beach at Guincho with its high waves that attract windsurfers from all around the world - as having some of the best rollers in Europe.
To the north you will find the romantic and fascinating mountains and town of Sintra, as well as the town of Mafra with it's impressive Palácio de Mafra with a prize library housing about 36.000 rare books.
East of Cascais is the resort-town of Estoril, with the largest Casino in Europe, with rich variety of shows. In summer it offers free night concerts.
Go west to Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca) - a cape which forms the westernmost point of mainland Europe - a main tourist-attraction!
