Almancil is a town and a civil parish(freguesia) of Loulé, situated in the Algarve in the south of Portugal.
Almancil has become an important centre for providing services to feed the needs of two nearby well-established resorts; Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo.
The area has many resorts and housing developments. In keeping with the needs of the area there is a large selection of restaurants offering many different forms of cuisine. Also, there are many real estate offices, interior decorators and furnishing shops.
Close by to the east of Almancil is a small village named São Lourenço. The church here is well worth a visit - as it is covered inside with beautiful 18th Century ceramic tiles and is an outstanding example in the Algarve.
Football
Also located in Almancil is the Estadio Algarve - which was used in the 2004 European Football Championship. It is the home ground of Louletano DC and SC Farense.
An expensive area
A 2007 study made by two consulting groups, Quinta do Lago along with Vale do Lobo and Almancil make up the most expensive real estate region in Portugal. It is rumoured that Elton John, George Michael, Madonna, Alan Shearer and Luis Figo own property in this area.
