Alcochete is a town and a municipality in Portugal located south east of Lisbon, in the district of Setúbal.
Alcochete is known for its bullfighting tradition and its proximity to the longest bridge in Europe - Vasco da Gama Bridge. Alcochete is also the site of Sporting's academy and has the largest outlet mall in the Iberian Peninsula.
The town has experienced major development due to the construction of the Vasco da Gama Bridge, linking the town to Lisbon - the capital of Portugal.
New international airport of Lisbon
On May 8, 2008 the Portuguese Government confirmed that Alcochete had been selected as the site of the new airport serving Lisbon, since the existing Portela Airport has become too small to handle demand. |
